Instructions to make Dal Makhani:

  1. First, wash and soaked the lentils and kidney beans together in water overnight or 6-8 hours. Then rinse well the urad lentils and rajma legumes a couple of times in water. then in a pressure cooker add both lentils and rajma add whole spices along with 1tsp salt and cooked it on high flame for 5-6 whistles. Now the dal and rajma cooked well mash lightly with a masher..
  2. In a kadhai add oil and 2 tbsp butter add onion and saute until it turns light brown. Now add ginger garlic paste and Kashmiri red chili powder saute for 1 minute then add tomato puree. add a little salt and red chili powder. cover and cook it for 2-3 minutes then add ginger julienne and slit green chilies.Mix well..
  3. When spices cook well add cooked dal in it. stir well. add two cups of water and cover it cook on a medium flame for 15 minutes.Stir after every two minutes. then open it add butter, kasoori methi and some coriander leaves. cover and cook again on a medium flame for ten minutes..
  4. When it becomes thick add cream mix well. Keep on stirring when the lentils are simmered on low heat. When simmering you can add more water if the consistency looks thick or dry. cook it for 10 minutes The lentils become a creamy texture. turn off the flame. garnish with coriander leaves and cream serve with roti or naan..
